Rebecca Papillon
Unconscious views of conscious worlds.
I paint what I have seen on the other side of ordinary sight.
My work begins not in imagination but in reception — images arriving from somewhere beyond the visible, demanding to be rendered in this world. I don’t plan these paintings so much as receive them — and then do everything in my power to render them faithfully. The paintings that emerge are windows: into cosmic worlds, into the sovereign lives of creatures who have always known more than we give them credit for, into the quiet certainty that consciousness does not end at the boundaries we have drawn for it.
The animals in my work are not subjects. They are emissaries. They arrive from worlds that parallel and interpenetrate this one, carrying the reminder that life — in its infinite, luminous forms — extends far beyond what human eyes were built to find.
Rebecca Papillon is a British-Californian visionary artist working in mixed media — building luminous, layered worlds from spray paint, acrylic inks, acrylics, foiling, and oils — light-catching surfaces that transform the painted surface into something closer to a portal than a picture.
Born in England, Papillon trained across disciplines — dance, acting, and fine art — before completing her studies at the Milan Art Institute. Her work as a finalist in the Pebeo Mixed Media Exhibition in England brought her early recognition. She now works from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Every piece leaves this studio with intention.
I work in layers — spray paint, acrylic inks, acrylics, texture, foiling, glass, and microbeads — building surfaces that catch light differently depending on where you stand and what you are ready to see. Each piece is finished in oils. Every material is chosen with intention. Nothing here is accidental.
Every original ships with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every print is made to order, inspected before it is packed, and handled with the same care as the originals.
